Wildcard Characters

Wildcard Characters can be used in Criteria for alphanumeric fields in Filter & Sorts, and in Match fields in CB Rules.

Wildcard Characters

Available wildcard characters are:

? to match a single character in a particular position.

* to match a number of characters (including none) in that position.

Below are wildcard examples and what they will match:

SMITH or SMITT but not SMITTEN

SMIT*

SMITH, SMITT, SMITTEN or SMITHSONIAN

?AKE

TAKE, or MAKE but not BRAKE

*AKE

TAKE, MAKE, BRAKE or MISTAKE

*ON*

ON, SONG, BELONG or HONK

You can combine a number of the ? and * wildcards to match a variety of words or phrases.

Special Characters

User double quotation marks or a literal comparison operator to search for special characters, such as:

  • spaces at the beginning or end
  • asterisk (*)
  • question mark (?)
  • comma (,)

For example, to search for ABC?, specify "ABC?"
