File Exporting - Fields tab

Navigator > Reports > File Exporting > Fields tab

Select field position, width, Display Label and optional totalling for the export.

See also File Exporting - Definition tab.

Field Name

Select the fields from those available in the drop down. You may find that typing part of the field name and using F8 is quicker. The fields will be exported in the order they appear in the grid. Buttons on the grid allow you to reorder the lines, insert or delete rows and select or unselect fields. Each file gives access to a RecNo (record number) field. This is a virtual field that gives a unique reference to the record.

Width

Display Width

The width of fixed length string fields is shown. DisplayWidth applies to exports that result in a display, such as exporting to screen, printer, Excel worksheet, or Adobe PDF file.

It is ignored for exports to a CSV or tab delimited file as there is no display. Display Width is measured by the standard character width (the digit '0'). For an Excel worksheet, determine the initial width of the field. For reports, it determines the field width assuming the field will always be wide enough to fit the DisplayLabel.

Display Label

The field heading for the field. This is changed to create the required field headings when using File Exporting as a quick report writer.

Total

Available for exports to screen, printer, Adobe PDF or Excel worksheet.

Selected, a field total is output. Exports to CSV or tab delimited files - they do not output totals. A numeric field can be totalled. For a destination of Excel worksheet, totals are output as a formula.
