Accredo > File > Backup Company
It is important to perform backups on a regular basis to protect your data from hardware failure or loss from software or security issues.
Before performing an Accredo backup, ensure sufficient drive space is available. Files are compressed to a temporary folder on the hard drive before being transferred to the specified backup destination.
If Accredo is run on a file server or Remote Desktop server it will be faster to run the backup directly from that server.
Backup Frequency
The frequency of your backups is dependent on your use of Accredo. Smaller companies or those processing less transactions may only require a weekly backup, whereas bigger companies may need to do backups daily or even hourly.
We recommend that backups be taken before performing tasks where an outcome may be uncertain, such as end of period processing or importing large amounts of data.
Backup Methods
For some sites, the Accredo built in backup feature will be adequate for taking manual backups as needed. The Backup Tool is available at Accredo > File > Backup Company. Backups taken using the Accredo backup tool should be made to a different location to the machine your data is stored on. This could be a USB flash drive or hard drive on a network location.
For larger sites or sites using Remote Desktop Services, in addition to manual backups, the use of mirrored drives and daily (or more frequently as required) automated system-wide backups are recommended.
Install the Accredo VSS writer and use the Accredo VSS Backup utility or a third-party backup solutions that supports volume snapshots, as this will allow backups to be seamlessly made while Accredo is in use.
Verify Backups
Verify Accredo backups to ensure the data has been recorded correctly. If a backup takes less time than usual, it may indicate a fault. We recommend you archive Accredo backups, including backups taken at the end of the previous two accounting periods.
Restore
To restore a company, go to Accredo > File > Restore Company.
