Remote Desktop Services

For Remote Desktop Services systems, install the Accredo Server on the Remote Desktop Host. This ensures users can access Accredo data using the Remote Desktop Host, rather than by running across a network, giving the best possible performance and eliminating any client side caching issues.

We recommend the Accredo Client also be installed on the Remote Desktop Host. This allows updates to be installed on the Server, without all Users having to exit out of Accredo.

After an Update has been installed on the Remote Desktop Host, when a User next restarts the Accredo Client, it will automatically update to the new version.

If User Access Times are configured to force all Users out of Accredo each night, the new version will be available the next morning.

We recommend installing Accredo Server on the latest currently supported version of Microsoft Windows Server, with hardware of a sufficient specification to support applications.

Note: Remote Desktop Services was previously known as Terminal Services.

TSFairShare

Microsoft introduced a feature in Server 2012 and later to the Remote Desktop Services Host server role called Fair Share technologies which limits and equally distributes network bandwidth and disk resources available across Remote Desktop sessions. This feature can have a significant negative impact on the performance of data intensive operations of the Accredo software (as well as other commonly used applications). It is the recommendation of Accredo that this disk Fair Sharing be disabled for optimal performance on your Remote Desktop server. Optionally the network Fair Sharing can be disabled if you also have users accessing the Accredo software via a network share.

To disable Fair Sharing for disk or network, in consultation with your IT provider or server manager, the following registry keys will need to be changed:

Disk Fair Sharing

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TSFairShare\Disk
Change the value EnableFairShare from 1 to 0 (zero).

Network Fair Sharing

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TSFairShare\NetFS
Change the value EnableFairShare from 1 to 0 (zero).
