Categories provide flexible, user-defined classification codes for grouping and filtering records across multiple modules.
Each module that supports categories provides two independent category lists, Category 1 and Category 2. Categories can be set up for:
Use Categories to:

Unique code used to identify the category. Entered in upper case (text is automatically capitalised as you type). Read-only when editing. The code can only be entered when inserting a new category. Once created, it cannot be changed. |
| Description |
The code description that appears in reports and selection lists. |
| Inactive |
When selected, the category becomes inactive and will not appear in lookup lists for new records. |
| Assignment |
Categories are assigned to records in their respective maintenance screens (Customer Maintenance, Product Maintenance, etc.). Each record can have one Category 1 value and one Category 2 value. |
| Reporting |
Categories appear as filtering and grouping options in reports and analysis screens throughout the system. |
| Independence |
Category 1 and Category 2 are completely independent. They can be used for different classification schemes. |
